Care and support worker pay equity settlement agreement

St John of God Hauora Trust welcomes the Government announcement relating to a $2 billion pay equity settlement for 55,000 care and support workers in New Zealand.
The settlement, announced by the Ministry of Health this week on 18 April, was made in recognition of pay inequity experienced by the predominantly female workforce in New Zealand’s aged and disability residential care and home and community support services.

Steve Berry, St John of God Hauora Trust CEO, said “St John of God Hauora Trust welcomes the news that will bring increased recognition of the hard work and dedication of workers in the sector. We await the full details of this legislation and look forward to implementing in coming months.“

St John of God Hauora Trust employs a large team of Support Workers across its Health and Ability Services division in Christchurch and Wellington.
