Rangatahi go Coast to Coast, thanks to St John of God Waipuna

St John of God Waipuna recently supported six rangatahi to complete the 2021 Coast to Coast event, as part of the Rangatahi Tumanako project.

The Rangatahi Tumanako project builds upon an ongoing strategic partnership with the Department of Corrections working alongside young people who have offended in their journey of growth and development.

The group is an extension of St John of God Waipuna’s 14-week Adventure Therapy program for young offenders. Activities like the Coast to Coast are central to the effectiveness of the Rangatahi Tumanako project in providing opportunities for young people to set and achieve positive and pro-social goals.

St John of God Hauora Trust Acting CEO Sarah Williams said the organisation was extremely proud of the outstanding effort put in by the rangatahi.

"We remain grateful to the team of volunteers and support athletes who continue to support this work. Along with contributing their time, their personal investment in the lives of these rangatahi is a vital social aspect of this program that sustains their capacity to see their future success."

The group is also a philanthropic partnership with Te Rangatahi Tumanako Trust, a family trust that provides critical funding to help sustain this important program.
