Residents to live life to the full with new water slide

Work will soon commence to shape a large mound of dirt into an upgraded water slide for residents at St John of God Halswell with support from HEB Construction.

Water Slide at St John of God Halswell

The project follows the successful operation of a water slide in February 2018 for residents which led to coverage on TV3 and in the Christchurch Press. With hot weather forecast St John of God Halswell management conceived and built a kiwi-style waterslide using over 40m of black plastic. Utilising large inflatables to carry residents, the activity produced several hours of sheer delight for residents, staff and families.

Discussion with HEB Construction who are building the neighbouring Nga Puna Wai sports precinct lead to an offer to help build a more ambitious installment of the project.

Bryce Moir, Nga Puna Wai Site Manager for HEB Construction said they saw this as the perfect opportunity to give something back to community.

Virginia Spoors, Southern Regional Manager for Health and Ability Services said St John of God Halswell was delighted to see the project get support and are really pleased that HEB Construction have been able to help.

"The slide should be ready to go by July - just in time for residents to go winter tobogganing," Virginia said.

"This is just one of many ways we support residents to experience life and choose to engage in activities with elements of managed risk leading to a true sense of accomplishment.”
