Consumer and community engagement

As one of the largest employers in Perth’s eastern region, we are committed to supporting the community in a variety of ways and place great focus on partnering with patients, carers and the community to provide high quality outcomes to patients.

Consumer Partnership Framework

As part of our commitment to providing the best possible experience for patients, we have created a Patient Experience Framework.

The framework is a guide to inform consumers about how they can be involved in influencing health service planning and improvement. It also informs caregivers about engagement and governance processes to be used to strengthen the ways we listen to and work with consumers.

Consumer and Community Advisory Council

Our Consumer and Community Advisory Council forms part of our commitment to deliver excellent health care.

The Council provides a forum for community input into the provision of our services and activities.

Its role is to represent a consumer voice and enhance the patient experience at the hospital by providing input into our service delivery and planning.

Council members have a variety of backgrounds and experience. Many are heavily involved in the community, including representation on other boards, councils and committees.

Mental Health Consumer and Carer Advisory Group

Our Mental Health Consumer and Carer Advisory Group provides a voice for mental health consumers and carers. It provides feedback into the planning, design, delivery, monitoring and evaluation of the hospital’s mental health services.

The group forms part of our commitment to partner with patients, carers and the broader community to support mental health care.

Seeking consumers input

We are currently seeking consumer representatives to join one of the various committees established by the hospital to ensure it is meeting the Australia Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care’s Standards.

The consumer representatives provide a consumer voice and perspective to activities and initiatives being undertaken by our Standard committees.

The committees are designed to ensure the hospital delivers safe, high quality and patient-centred care.

Each committee focuses on a different Standard, including:

  • Clinical outcome review
  • Partnering with consumers
  • Preventing and controlling infections
  • Medication safety
  • Comprehensive care, which also includes falls, pressure injuries, nutrition and end of life
  • Communicating for safety
  • Blood management
  • Recognising and responding to acute deterioration

We are seeking consumers who have a desire to enhance the patient experience at our hospital. Ideally they will have been a patient in the hospital or supported a family member or friend during their hospital stay.

Applications are strongly encouraged from people across a range of backgrounds, experiences and cultures.

Ideally applicants should live in or have a strong connection with the hospital’s catchment area (City of Swan, Town of Bassendean and Shires of Mundaring, Kalamunda, Northam, Toodyay and York).
