Dental surgery

Dental surgery is any surgery involving the teeth, including removing impacted teeth and abscesses.

Our caregivers are on hand to support you before, during and after surgery so you understand the procedure and feel relaxed.

Our dental surgery services

Our dental surgeons, oral surgeons, anaesthetists, dentists, dental nurses /assistants and allied health professionals work together using the latest dental technology, to make sure your dental procedure has the best outcome.

Procedures may include:

  • impacted teeth extraction
  • wisdom teeth (third molar) extraction.

Dental surgery – what to expect

When you have dental surgery in hospital, it’s likely that you’ll be placed under general anaesthetic so you don’t feel any pain. General anaesthetic puts you to sleep while letting the surgeon perform complex work on your teeth and jaw.

Your doctor will advise if you will be able to go home on the same day as your procedure or if you will need to stay overnight at hospital to recover.

Your recovery

Following your dental surgery, oral medication may be prescribed for further pain relief. Our caregivers will provide follow-up care, to ensure you recover fully. Your diet may be restricted as you might find it difficult to eat certain foods for a short while. Please don’t hesitate to ask us if you have any questions.
